The Brief
Glencairn was commissioned to design and manufacture a bespoke decanter to contain the Scion Port. A cask aged Tawny Port which dated back to 1855.
The importance of this project was emphasised by an important unique selling point of this particular port, in that it was pre ‘phylloxera’ vintage – the famous aphid that destroyed the vineyards of Europe and facilitated the growth of the Scotch Whisky Industry.
The decanter had to be unique and stylish in finish, with wooden topped cork seal and crystal stopper.
What We Delivered
The end product was a mouth blown hand cut lead crystal decanter, treated for lead leaching. Meticulous detail was paid to ensure correct capacity/fill levels were maintained for every bottle
It was developed in close partnership with the customer and finally presented in a hand made “wooden box with brass fittings reminiscent of an 19th century instrument case”.
It’s recommended retail price was £2500.00 and was made available in December 2010.
