Attending ADI, Binny’s & WhiskyFest 2015

March 24, 2015

It’s been a busy time of late as we’ve been visiting many of the great spirit and whisky festivals and conferences held around the world and there’s no let up heading into April.
Firstly we’re delighted to be attending the American Distilling Institute’s Annual Spirits Conference. It’s being held between March 30th and April 2nd at the Kentucky International Convention Centre in Louisville. Some really interesting speakers and workshops taking place, it promises to be a very interesting event.

The following week we’ll also be attending Binny’s World of Whiskies on April 9th. This is being held in Lincoln Park, Chicago, we’re hoping the snow has cleared by then!

Staying in Chicago the following day we’ll be at the annual WhiskyFest Chicago at the Hyatt Regency on the 10th of April. Both events in Chicago are hugely popular, that might be because they are well organised and have a wonderful array of whiskies to sample and experts to speak too or it might be because they both use Glencairn Glasses, we’ll let you decide!

Seriously though if you are going to any of these events please feel free to make contact with us before or during the events, we’d be delighted to say ‘hello’.

Visiting Nth Las Vegas and Whisky Live London

February 24, 2015

We’re going to be attending a couple of important shows in March. Firstly Raymond, Andy and Marty will be at the ‘Nth 2015’ – The Ultimate Whisky Experience at the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas. The event takes place from the 11th to the 14th March and is the fifth such event. The previous events have proved very popular and this event has quickly established itself as an important one on the whisky calendar.

The following week Andy will be at Whisky Live London on the 20th and 21st March held at the wonderfully named Honourable Artillery Company in Armoury House. Whisky Live London is a popular show with trade and public alike.

If you are attending either of these events and you’d like to say ‘hello’ or find out a bit more about Glencairn we’d be delighted to meet you.

Distiller’s Convention and Vendor Trade Show

February 18, 2015

We were delighted to visit the Distiller’s Convention and Vendor Trade Show in Austin, Texas at the weekend. Hosted by the American Craft Spirits Association it provided a fascinating insight into the fast growing craft distilling sector in the United States.

The enthusiasm and innovation on display was infectious and we were fortunate to get the opportunity to speak and meet with a large number of people there. There was also the added bonus for Marty and Andy of sampling some Texas weather in February!

The Craft Of Glencairn Crystal

January 23, 2015

We’ve put a short film together showing the various processes involved in creating a new crystal decanter. It might surprise you how much of it is still done by hand by skilled craftsmen and women.

Glencairn Design and Supply Decanters for Oldest Bottling of Irish Single Malt Released

January 6, 2015

When the Teeling Whiskey Company decided to release two new bottlings from its Vintage Reserve Collection, the company called on East Kilbride based Glencairn Crystal to partner the bottle design and manufacture for the 26 Year Old Gold Reserve and 30 Year Old Platinum Reserve Irish single malts.

The 30 Year Old release is believed to be the oldest bottling of Irish Single Malt recently released, allegedly making this the world’s most exclusive Irish whiskey.

Said Scott Davidson, Product Director of Glencairn: “Glencairn Crystal’s reputation for high quality products is known globally throughout the whisky industry. We are delighted to work in partnership with the Teeling Whiskey Company to design and supply these unique hand-cut crystal decanters for the latest editions to Teelings Vintage Reserve Collection.”

The Gold Reserve bottling consists of 26 year old single malt Irish whiskey double distilled in 1987 and matured firstly in bourbon casks then allowed to marry in white Burgundy wine casks. This small batch bottling of 1,000 bottles, is the first Irish whiskey to be finished in white Burgundy wine casks.

The Platinum Reserve 30 Year old bottling has been limited to 250 bottles. Having been double distilled in 1983 and allowed to rest for over 30 years in a Bourbon cask this limited edition whiskey has inherited a huge amount of character and is exceptional not only in taste but also in its rarity.

The Gold Reserve 26 Year Old will retail for approximately €475 (US$600, £400) and the Platinum Reserve for approximately €1,500 (US$2,000, £1,200). The products are initially only available in Ireland through Dublin Airport and the Celtic Whiskey Store and will then be rolled out to select international markets and travel retailers.
